Polyester peel and stick wallpaper for bathroom
Vinyl is a commonly used material for removable wallpaper due to its high durability, however, it presents its own challenges. At Fancy Walls, we have chosen to go down a different, more sustainable path when it comes to removable wallpaper. Our bathroom peel and stick wallpaper is made from OEKO-TEX certified 100% polyester woven fabric, meaning that it’s free of any harmful substances for human health. In addition to this, we use water-based inks, which are ECO-friendly and odorless. These types of inks are less prone to scratches compared to other temporary wallpaper options available on the market.
Polyester textile is made from recycled materials, and most importantly – it’s PVC-free. But that’s not it. Whenever you think that your bathroom wallpaper has served its time, it can be fully recycled!
To some extent, polyester and vinyl peel and stick wallpapers for bathrooms are similar. Both wallpaper options will offer the same vibrancy of colors and patterns, making sure to bring out the best possible appearance. The main difference between the two, however, is that textile woven wallpaper doesn’t shrink over time, meaning two things. First, the lifetime of the wallpaper will be much longer. Secondly, , it will be easier to calculate the precise amount of wallpaper needed as you won’t have to create an overlay when installing it, ensuring a more attractive end-result.
As with most materials, there are pros and cons to the use of peel and stick wallpaper in bathrooms, especially when it comes to the different materials available. The vinyl coating in our Vinyl wallpapers help to withstand moisture, sunlight and cleaning. At the same time, the adhesives tend to leave a mark on the walls, and PVC-based inks bring unnecessary toxins into your home.
Our Polyester wallpapers, on the other hand, are printed with non-toxic inks and backed with a high-quality adhesive that has a higher adherence compared to vinyl. This means they are less likely to damage your walls when removed. Thanks to the woven texture, it has a higher resistance to abrasion than vinyl wallpaper.
Water-resistant peel and stick wallpaper
What does it mean when we say “water resistant peel and stick wallpaper”? It means the wallpaper can withstand mild exposure to water from time to time, either getting lightly splashed or being cleaned with a damp cloth. However, it’s important to note that it is not meant to be in constant and direct contact with water as it will damage the material and most likely cause peeling.
The same principle goes for the term “moisture resistant”. If you are experiencing extreme humidity and moisture in your bathroom, the wallpaper will simply not adhere properly to the wall and most likely peel off.
Removable bathroom wallpaper
We understand that sometimes during a renovation project, errors can occur. Walls are not entirely straight, miscalculations are made, perhaps your hand slips – it’s normal. That is yet another moment for your bathroom peel and stick wallpaper to shine. If you finish applying the wallpaper and discover that something is off with the way that it looks, no need to worry. Our peel and stick wallpaper can be repositioned up to 24 hours after installation, giving you the chance to correct any mistakes made on the way. If you end up repositioning the wallpaper , try not to over-stretch it when removing it from the wall.
How to install peel and stick wallpaper in a bathroom
Overall, it’s relatively easy to apply peel and stick wallpaper in your bathroom and the application process is the same as in any other room. However, due to certain conditions that exist in bathrooms, such as high humidity and direct contact with water, there are a few things to keep in mind.
To get the most out of the product and achieve your desired result, make sure you apply the wallpaper to a flat surface. This step is very important as wallpaper adheres best to a smooth surface. While it is possible to apply peel and stick wallpaper on a variety of lightly textured walls, we do not recommend doing that. The texture will be visible and could possibly cause the wallpaper to peel off, as well as leave unwanted air bubbles underneath.
It is crucial to apply the wallpaper to a completely dry surface, as it simply won’t stick if there is moisture present. If you have more than one bathroom in your home, it can be a good idea to avoid using the bathroom you are planning to wallpaper a couple of days before the renovation. If you only have one bathroom, try to open a window and have the ventilator on for as long as you can to get the humidity out and dry the walls.
Having said that, the last thing probably won’t come as a surprise. Peel and stick wallpaper in bathroom should not be installed in the shower, around the bathtub or in any other place that is constantly in contact with water.
How long will peel and stick wallpaper last
The lifetime of peel and stick bathroom wallpaper strongly depends on environmental factors. Things such as humidity on the walls, airflow and ventilation can strongly impact how long the wallpaper will last.
If the conditions in the room are appropriate – it’s not too humid, and the surface that you want to wallpaper can avoid constant exposure to water, then you can count on enjoying your new design for several years and even longer. Remember, when the wallpaper is exposed to direct sunlight, the UV rays may cause colors to fade over time. Our water-based ink is more prone to fading due to UV rays after 3 years. Otherwise, it will probably last until you decide to explore another one of your peel and stick wallpaper bathroom ideas.
How much wallpaper do I need for a bathroom?
When measuring your walls, we recommend including mirrors, windows, doors and other elements to ensure that the design patterns will match and that you will have enough wallpaper. Most of our bathroom wallpaper peel and stick designs are straight match prints, so we sell our wallpaper per panel.
You can use our wallpaper calculator and follow a step-by-step guide to find out the exact amount of wallpaper you need for your project.
Other things to keep in mind when wallpapering a bathroom
To sum it up and confidently help you answer the question of “can I use peel and stick wallpaper in a bathroom?”. The short answer is – definitely yes, you can use peel and stick wallpaper in the bathroom. But there are a few other important things to remember apart from the ones mentioned above.
- In situations where you are experiencing plumbing problems, for example, if water leaks on the wallpaper, it will most likely damage it. An adhesive wallpaper and an excessive amount of water for a long period of time are not a great combination.
- Peel and stick wallpaper in bathrooms won’t save you from things such as mold and humidity behind walls. If your walls are moldy, it will also show on the wallpaper. Generally speaking,, mold is an issue you should try to fix for your own health.
- Try not to apply your wallpaper directly on a drywall. The green color can be seen through, therefore it’s recommended to paint it white before applying the wallpaper.
Where in the bathroom can I apply peel and stick wallpaper?
Peel and stick wallpaper can be applied anywhere in the bathroom except the shower area and places where it may be in consistent contact with water. If you have small kids or like to take an extra splashy bath yourself, then walls around your bathtub are another area to leave out.
In case you were wondering – bathroom peel and stick wallpaper ideas aren’t limited to just walls. It can be any other flat surface like a cabinet or the back of a shelf. You can always start small and work your way up as you get accustomed to the new design.
