What does peel and stick mean?

Peel and stick is a relatively modern development technology, that’s currently taking the interior design and homer decor world by storm. The main difference between peel and stick and its more traditional relative is that it’s not just self-adhesive but also attaches itself to the wall in a similar way that a sticker or decal would. That makes it way easier to apply because there is no paste required at all – just peel off the top corner and start applying it to the wall. And, what’s even more important, it also makes it removable as it can later be easily peeled off the wall. That’s why peel and stick application is the perfect option for people living in rental apartments – you’ll be able to personalize your living space even if the landlord doesn’t allow any major changes to it.

What are the best uses for peel and stick wallcovering?

As already mentioned above, it is a great option for rental properties or for anyone who’s not ready to commit to the same wall design for a long time. However, many people still decide in favor of using it, even if they plan to keep it for a long time – just because it’s so much easier to apply. And if the roll is made using quality inks and materials, the print shouldn’t fade over time. Another case when this application can come in handy is when you want to use the wallcovering as an accent, instead of covering the whole room in it. It can be easily cut to the right size and the fact that it’s self-stick will let you attach the wallcovering even to furniture, stairs, and other places where you wouldn’t expect to see it. It will also be a great fit for almost any kind of room – from a living room to a workshop. However, removable wall covering probably won’t be the best idea for nurseries and children’s bedrooms, because kids sometimes like to peel it off the walls, which means that you will have to re-apply it afterward. Meanwhile, it has a special advantage in kitchens and bathrooms, because it’s washable and waterproof, as opposed to traditional wallcovering.

What is unpasted wallcovering?

Unpasted or non-pasted wallcovering is the most traditional type of wallcoverings that is manufactured and sold nowadays. Contrary to other kinds of modern wallcoverings, which are printed on self-adhesive materials or covered with a layer of adhesive, it must be installed by manually covering each sheet or roll with paste – hence the name non-pasted. Understandably, that isn’t the most ideal scenario for those who are applying wallcovering themselves for the first time, because it’s significantly harder to hang than the aforementioned alternatives. However, this is actually the preferred option for many professionals and DIY enthusiasts with previous experience, as it usually retains its appearance for longer.

When should you choose non-pasted optinon?

As mentioned above, the appearance of non-pasted wallciovering tends to be more long-lasting than both the pre-pasted or peel and stick varieties, and, in contrast to the latter, it’s also not as easily removable. Therefore, it’s quite clear that non-pasted material is the best option in the case if you want an interior that’s going to keep looking fresh for years to come. In addition to that, you should also be sure that you’re not going to change the design anytime soon, because otherwise, you’re better off choosing the peel and stick option, which will be a lot easier to remove.

What design options are available for non-pasted material?

To answer the question in short – almost endless. As non-pasted is the more traditional kind of wallcovering, it also tends to be more readily available than the other options. Therefore, whether you’re after popular, classic designs or a more modern look, you’re likely to be able to find a non-pasted wallcovering that matches what you had in your mind. In addition to that, if you’re trying to achieve a completely unique appearance, it’s possible to purchase a custom-printed option with your own design.

How to hang unpasted wall covering?

Before you start hanging unpasted wallcovering on your walls, check the instructions that came with it to make sure there aren’t any specific requirements for it. If the manufacturer hasn’t set out any, you can follow these general rules to make sure you install it correctly.
  1. Make sure that the wall has been cleaned and primed to provide a smooth surface.
  2. Measure your walls to see how much wall covering you will need and cut the wallcovering accordingly. Make sure that the piece you cut is a little bit taller than the height of the wall to allow for adjustments later.
  3. Apply the paste to the wall and gently fold the top and bottom halves of it onto itself. Leave it for 10 minutes to let the paste soak into the wallcovering.
  4. Start applying the wall covering from one corner of the wall and gradually progress to cover the whole of it
